Definition
Amlodipine in the group of calcium channel blockers. This drug works dilate blood vessels, lower blood pressure monitor, and slowed heart rate thereby reducing the heart's workload. The drug is also dilate the coronary arteries so that blood flow to the heart increases.
Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or chest pain (angina).
Amlodipine is also used for other needs that are not listed here.
Important Information
Before using amlodipine tell your doctor if you have congestive heart failure or liver disease.
Avoid drinking alcohol while using amlodipine. Alcohol can continue to lower blood pressure and may increase some of the side effects of amlodipine. If you are under treatment for high blood pressure, keep using this medication even if you already feel better.
Amlodipine is only part of the treatment program that also includes a healthy diet, exercising. healthy weight control, and other medications.
Tell your doctor about all the medical treatment of heart and blood pressure that you do.
Chest pain may become worse when first using amlodipine or when the dose is increased. Call your doctor if the pain worsens or persists.
Side Effects
Call emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction is:
• Hives or itching with rash
• Difficulty breathing
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
Call your doctor if you have the following serious side effects:
• Feeling you are going to faint
• Swelling of the hands, or feet joints
• Pain in the chest
• slow heartbeat, fast or irregular
• Easy swelling or bleeding, unusual weakness
• Numbness, burning, pain or tingling
• yellowing of skin and eyes
Other side effects:
• Headache
• Drowsiness, depression, surprised
• Dizziness, sensation of spinning
• Heat or redness under the skin
• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite
• Diarrhea, constipation
• more urine than usual
• Difficulty sleeping
• Dreaming bad
• mild rash or itchy skin
• Pain in muscles or joints
• Dry mouth, thirst, and sweating
• Changes in body weight
Symptoms of the above side effects may appear incomplete and other symptoms
